1.) Queen Elizabeth I ruled during the time of Shakespeare. After her, James I of England ruled.
2.) The Elizabethan Era was from 1558-1603.
3.)The social classes were(in order from highest): Gentlemen, Nobility, Knights, Esquires, and then the Clergy. Peasant was the one of the lowest classes.
4.) Elizabethan women were treated inferior to men and were taught that men were better than them.
5.) Primogeniture is the right for the firstborn to inherit the entire estate.
6.)The Plague was a disease also called the Black Death, and Shakespeare lost many actors to the Plague. Many people had to leave London during it in order to stay healthy/alive.
7.)Elizabethan food was according to the social class/status. The upper class had a lot of meat in their meals, and the lower class had a lot of porridge. Each social class had Breakfast, Dinner, and Supper.
The Nobility class often watched sports and games for entertainment including archery, bowling, dice, hammer throwing, and more. Also they went to the theatre to watch Shakespeare's plays and church to listen to music and hymns. Most of the upper class lived in manors that were influenced by the Dutch. The lower class houses only had two stories and were a lot smaller. The lower class would only bathe a few times a year, but the upper class could bathe every few weeks in a tub next to the fireplace. The men and women had to wear overclothes and underclothes but the women had more. Examples of overclothes for women is a gown, or a cloak. Some underclothes that they wore was smock or shift, petticoat, and a corset. Some clothes that men wore for overclothes was breeches, cloak, or shoes. For underclothes, some things they wore were shirt, codpiece, and a corset.
